Scottie's newest addition

Recently, Abby unveiled Scottie’s beautiful new office and media training space here on the Scottie blog. A great office like this clearly could not be left empty and needed to be filled with people. So...I am thrilled to announce that I have recently joined Scottie as an associate! I will be helping Abby out with all things Scottie so expect to see my name a lot more around here in the future. In addition to my excitement about joining the firm, I am also thrilled to be returning to my hometown of Pittsburgh after a couple of years away.

A Pittsburgh native through and through, I grew up in the Point Breeze neighborhood and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill in 2012. After that, I headed up to our northern neighbor for college, studying political science (and occasionally bartending) at McGill University in Montreal. While I didn’t pick up much French, I certainly developed an appreciation for poutine and Tim Horton’s.

I spent the summer between my sophomore and junior years of college working right down the street here in Downtown Pittsburgh, interning in the government affairs office of PPG Industries, where I learned far more than I ever expected about the paint industry. I discovered my love of communications and (very) small teams the next summer when I worked as the press intern for the music and lyrics startup Genius (formerly Rap Genius) in Brooklyn, New York. Despite lacking a “genius”-level of knowledge of rap music, I loved the fast-paced nature of startup life and the “no one day is the same” nature of communications work. After finishing up school this past December, I headed down to Washington, D.C. to work at Abby’s old firm, SKDKnickerbocker. For the past five months, I took a crash course in working at an award-winning political communications and public affairs firm.

When I heard that Abby was looking for someone to join Scottie, I jumped at the chance. Working here is the perfect combination of my passions for communications and small, scrappy teams in my favorite city in the world.

Please feel free to get in touch with me at madison@scottiepa.com. I can’t wait to dive right in and help Scottie grow even more.
